Mushroom Foundry manufactures from fruiting body, extracts by a species-matched dual method, and releases every batch against a third-party Certificate of Analysis. Water-first extraction pulls the beta-glucans; an ethanol pass pulls the triterpenes and terpenoids; the ratio is matched to the species, not applied blindly. Extract ratios run from 8:1 to 20:1 and are always stated next to a measured beta-glucan, because a ratio alone can hide a weak input. Beta-glucan is measured by the Megazyme enzymatic assay, which separates fungal beta-glucan from grain-derived alpha-glucan, and heavy metals are screened on every batch, which matters most for wild-harvested chaga.
A functional mushroom keeps its value in two solubilities. Beta-glucans are water-soluble and come out in a hot-water extraction; triterpenes and other terpenoids, like reishi's ganoderic acids, are not, and only release in ethanol. A single method captures half the mushroom. We run both and match the emphasis to the species: reishi and chaga lean on the ethanol pass for their triterpenes, lion's mane and turkey tail on the water pass for their beta-glucans. The extract is recombined so the finished powder carries the whole profile, and the method used is stated on the documentation.
An extract ratio, 8:1 or 20:1, only tells you how much raw material went in, not how much active came out. Twenty kilograms of weak, starchy biomass can still yield a 20:1 extract with very little beta-glucan. That is why we always pair the ratio with a measured beta-glucan percentage, and why we measure it with the Megazyme enzymatic assay rather than a total-polysaccharide test. Total polysaccharides count grain starch, the alpha-glucan left behind by grain-grown mycelium, as if it were mushroom. The Megazyme method reports beta-glucan and alpha-glucan separately, so the honest number and the filler number sit side by side.
A Certificate of Analysis earns trust by what it is willing to print. Every batch we release is tested by a third-party laboratory and reports beta-glucan and alpha-glucan by the Megazyme assay, species identity, heavy metals (arsenic, cadmium, lead, mercury), microbial limits, and pesticide screening. Heavy metals carry extra weight for chaga, which is a wild-harvested sclerotium that draws minerals from its host tree, so wild inputs are screened lot by lot. The COA travels with the batch, so you can hand it to a retailer, a marketplace, or your own QA without a caveat.

It means the raw-material weight that went into the extract: 8:1 is eight kilograms of mushroom in, one kilogram of extract out. On its own it says nothing about active content, since weak biomass can still concentrate to a high ratio. We always pair the ratio with a measured beta-glucan percentage so the number reflects potency, not just concentration.

Every chaga lot is screened for arsenic, cadmium, lead, and mercury at a third-party laboratory, and the results are printed on the batch Certificate of Analysis.
